The killing of 10,000 leftist crackpots and later potential political abusers and parasites in a communist government was a necessity to guarantee at least relative freedom and prosperity for Chileans (about ten million). Compare Chile with other Latin American countries. Cleaning out Allende's mess would have been a task for Hercules. That wasn't Pinochet and yet. He achieved a lot for Chile and the Chileans. Other states with a similar starting point in 1973 were nowhere near the level of Chile at the end of Admiral Pinochet's term in office.
